Bastille Day Celebration, 100 Years Fighting with the French! Our Nurses saved the Wounded.

Today, 200 Americans walked in the Bastille Day Parade in Paris. Much as our WWI soldiers did numerous times before and after that first world war, our men looked proud to celebrate our democracy.
Hoping you will see those clips on TV and on Twitter, I'm also eager to post a few of my newest photographs willingly offered me by the Army Medical Museum in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston.
Here are the first of approximately 100 more which I will soon post on the National WWI Centennial Commission website. The annotations describe the photos.

About HEROIC MEASURES

In 1917, more than 22,400 American women left their homes, their families and their positions in hospitals and private homes to join the Army Nurse Corps. More than 10,000 of them sailed to foreign countries, slept in hammocks, trudged through knee-deep mud, washed their hair in their own helmets to nurse more than a million American soldiers wounded and sick from battle.

This autumn on the 99th anniversary of the declarations of war, my new novel HEROIC MEASURES debuts and tells the story of these women's dedication. Here in this blog, I supplement that reading experience with facts from my own extensive research.

Do marvel at those who served in thousands of capacities all over the world and who afterward declared that its horrors must end-and that the Great War must be "the war to end all wars."
